What is it that cannot be spoken about?

Anxiety

In addition to global existential angst, individual anxiety can be extremely debilitating, often leading to avoidance of social situations, increasing isolation, and loneliness. It can impact all areas of our lives.  When suffering from anxiety, the debilitating nature of an episode and the lack of warning can leave you feeling powerless and frustrated.   Anxiety is a common reason people attend therapy and can be a sign of some deeper underlying issue that initially seems unconnected with when and where it occurs.

Addiction

Addiction can be thought of as an attempt to find a solution, wherein the solution becomes more problematic than that for which a solution was originally sought. Bringing about short-term relief, yet negative consequences in the longer term. It is difficult to stop the behaviour. The real question might be, what is it that you are seeking relief from, as this is the real driver of addictive behaviour.  Psychotherapy can help you identify the underlying causes and drivers of your addiction and help you on your road to change.

Loss, Grief, and Bereavement

Grief is not an illness. It's natural and usually a response to a known, or unknown event. Most of us are eventually able to recover, but this can be a complex process. Any change in life that involves a change of our standing in the world can involve loss. We may not be immediately aware of the impact or of our feelings about current or past losses, yet they do impact on us. Loss can be thought of as an adjustment to change. Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to pause, reflect and metabolize the sometimes complicated and difficult feelings associated with loss.

Relating to Food

The way we relate to food is deeply personal and varies from person to person and will vary throughout our lives. Eating too much or too little impacts your body and mind in a number of ways. Whether we binge, restrict, obsess or deprive our 'selves' of food, this is a complex area and no two people are the same, so if you need assistance in understanding and changing an unhelpful relationship with food, psychotherapy may help.

Personality and Emotional difficulties

Often have their origins in early life experiences, yet continue to impact our personal and professional relationships today. Do you often find yourself in conflict with others, especially those important to you?  Do you have mood swings that even you don't understand? Psychotherapy provides space and time to think about how the communication between us can help you address the roots of your internal conflicts and give meaning to your experiences.

For Professionals

I also welcome inquiries from trainee psychotherapists, social workers, teachers, counsellors and nurses, who may be stressed or struggling with the nature of their workload.
